London Sees Second Wave of Protests: Opposing CCP “Super Embassy” Expansion and Asserting Democratic Resistance
On March 15, 2025, a large-scale protest broke out again in front of Royal Mint Court in London, with thousands gathering to oppose the Chinese government’s plan to establish a “super embassy” in the UK. This was the second major protest against the project since February, showing that overseas democratic forces remain firm in resisting the CCP’s expansion.
This demonstration not only highlighted the issue of CCP political infiltration abroad but also expressed stronger demands regarding the UK government’s stance. Following the first protest in February, the British government faced public pressure to reassess whether to allow China to establish such an extensive diplomatic facility. However, despite increasing voices calling for the project’s cancellation, the UK government has yet to make a clear decision, prompting democratic activists to protest again and urge stronger action.
Ma Yinglai, Chairman of the Chinese Democratic Party United Headquarters (Overseas) UK Committee, and Zhang Bin, Organization Minister, participated in the demonstration, standing with protesters to express their unwavering support for freedom and democracy. They also warned of the potential threat that the CCP’s “super embassy” project poses to global democratic systems.
The Global Threat of CCP Expansion
In recent years, the CCP has intensified censorship, political persecution, and religious repression at home while also expanding its influence abroad by using economic leverage to infiltrate democratic nations. The “super embassy” project is part of the CCP’s global expansion strategy—not just a diplomatic mission but a potential intelligence hub, surveillance base, and control mechanism over overseas Chinese communities.
Protesters expressed concerns that if the CCP successfully establishes this massive “super embassy” in London, the UK’s democratic security will face serious threats. They believe that China’s government is using diplomatic facilities for “long-arm jurisdiction” to monitor and intimidate overseas Chinese dissidents, Hong Kongers, Tibetans, Uyghurs, and other opposition groups.
This demonstration was more than just a protest against the London project—it sent a clear message to the UK government: The free world must not remain silent in the face of CCP infiltration.
Ma Yinglai: The CCP’s Influence Must Be Curbed, and Democracies Can No Longer Back Down
At the protest, Ma Yinglai emphasized the importance of the demonstration, pointing out that the CCP’s expansion is not just an oppression of the Chinese people but also a major challenge to global democracies:
“We are here today not only to oppose the ‘super embassy’ but to send a warning to the UK government and the international community: If the CCP continues its expansion, it will not only be a disaster for the Chinese people but a direct threat to the entire democratic system. We can no longer back down—we must unite and fight against authoritarian infiltration!”
He further stated that the UK government should not prioritize economic interests over democratic principles but should focus on the real purpose behind the CCP’s “super embassy” project. If the UK continues to turn a blind eye, similar cases will spread across other democratic nations, ultimately undermining the stability and security of the free world.
Zhang Bin: Hong Kong Must Be Independent, Taiwan Should Replace the CCP in the UN
Zhang Bin, Organization Minister, focused on the issues of Hong Kong and Taiwan, stressing that the international community must take a tougher stance against CCP expansion. He stated:
“Hong Kong must be independent to achieve true freedom! The UK should recognize Taiwan’s national status and establish full diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The UK and the international community should restore Taiwan’s seat in the United Nations Security Council, and Taiwan should replace the CCP as a permanent member. The CCP dictatorship must be thrown into the dustbin of history!”
He stressed that the world must no longer remain silent in the face of CCP expansion and repression, particularly regarding Taiwan. Democratic governance must replace authoritarian rule to truly represent the Chinese people.
The UK Government’s Dilemma and the Continuation of the Struggle
One of the main goals of the protest was to pressure the UK government to reassess its diplomatic policies toward the CCP and make decisions that align with democratic values. After the first protest in February, the UK government acknowledged public concerns but took no concrete action. Therefore, this larger protest was meant to ensure that the UK government could no longer ignore the issue.
Protesters urged the UK government to:
• Officially oppose the “super embassy” project to prevent the CCP from setting up a surveillance hub in London.
• Strengthen oversight of Chinese diplomatic institutions to ensure they do not undermine the UK’s democratic system.
• Work with other democratic nations to counter the CCP’s global infiltration.
Although this protest has ended, the struggle is far from over. This is not just about the “super embassy” but about the broader fight against authoritarianism and the CCP’s global influence.
The Struggle Continues, and Democratic Forces Will Move Forward
While this protest may have concluded, the fight for democracy and freedom will not stop. The Chinese Democratic Party United Headquarters (Overseas) UK Committee has made it clear that they will not stop exposing the CCP’s expansionist ambitions and seeking greater international support. The “super embassy” project is just one example of the CCP’s growing global authoritarian reach.
Ma Yinglai stressed that this second protest proves one thing: More and more people are realizing that the CCP is not only oppressing the Chinese people but is also a major threat to global democracy.
The impact of this protest extends beyond London—it sends a strong signal to the world that CCP expansion is not just China’s problem but a challenge the entire democratic world must confront.
Looking ahead, the Chinese Democratic Party United Headquarters (Overseas) UK Committee will continue to advocate on the international stage, work closely with democratic organizations worldwide, and push for coordinated efforts to resist authoritarianism. Their mission is to reveal the true nature of the CCP, promote democratic governance, and ensure that freedom, the rule of law, and human rights become universal values.
